PIKA Weihenstephan™ FastOrange™ Yeast Broth is a concentrated culture medium developed for the simplified detection of yeast in beer, wine, and in-process beverage samples. Yeasts such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. diastaticus, a superattenuating wild yeast that contains the gene for glucoamylase production and that can result in high pressures, are common causes of beer and wine spoilage. Upon incubation of beer or wine samples in PIKA Weihenstephan™ FastOrange™ Yeast Broth, the presence of yeast is identified by colony formation often accompanied by an easy-to-read color change; the media changes from violet to yellow and this color change is evident even in turbid samples. The media is selective for yeast and contains antibiotics to inhibit the growth of other microorganisms.
