PIKA Weihenstephan™ FastOrange™ B Broth is a concentrated culture medium for detecting microbial contamination during all stages of the brewing process. It can be used to test water, pitching yeast, and fermenter samples, as well as for testing beer samples. Beer spoilers such as acid producing Lactobacillus and Pediococcus are easily detected by a color change from violet to yellow upon incubation. Anaerobic incubation is unnecessary, even for beer-spoiling bacteria. PIKA Weihenstephan™ FastOrange™ B Broth can be used on its own to detect beer spoilage organisms, but is also qualified for use upstream of PCR detection for more rapid results.

Detectable microorganisms include:

• Lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillaceae) such as Lactobacillus and Pediococcus
• Acetic acid bacteria (Acetobacteriaceae) such as Acetobacter and Gluconobacter
• Anaerobic beer spoiling bacteria such as Pectinatus and Megasphaera
• Beer spoiling yeast such as Dekkera (Brettanomyces); Brewers’ yeast is suppressed
