Penicillin/Streptomycin (Pen/Strep) is an antibiotic mixture, which can be added to cell culture media. This solution is effective against contaminations with gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

青霉素/链霉素能有效对抗革兰氏阳性菌和革兰氏阴性菌的污染。本产品以100倍浓缩液形式提供。
青霉素属于β-内酰胺类抗生素，其作用机制是抑制合成新细胞膜组分所必需的一种关键酶（D-丙氨酸转肽酶）。因此，青霉素仅对正在活跃分裂的细胞有效。
而链霉素的作用机制则是与细菌核糖体的30S亚基结合。无论细菌细胞是否处于活跃分裂状态，该机制都能抑制其内部的蛋白质合成。

Description
Penicillin/Streptomycin (Pen/Strep) is a ready-to-use antibiotic mix of penicillin and streptomycin. It is widely used in cell culture and can be added to cell culture media.

Penicillin/Streptomycin is effective against contaminations with gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. This product is provided as a 100x concentrate.

Penicillins belong to the β-lactam family and act by inhibiting an essential enzyme for the synthesis of new membrane components (D-Alanin-Transpeptidase). Therefore penicillin is only effective on actively dividing cells.

Streptomycin, on the other hand, acts by binding to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome. This mechanism inhibits protein synthesis within the bacterium, regardless of whether the cell is actively dividing or not.
